Find out why Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol is one of the best brands that I have discovered lately because of its gentle skin protection.
In February last year, I wrote a review about how I love Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol because I found it to be effective in disinfecting my hands without drying them and triggering dermatitis. Admittedly, I have been using it rarely for several months now because I seldom go out since I'm working from home full-time.
Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol Has Methanol [Not Recommended]
However, just recently, I received a comment on this post saying that Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol has been found by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Philippines to contain Methanol which is dangerous or injurious to health.
According to FDA's advisory, acute exposure to Methanol through inhalation, ingestion, or direct skin contact may cause the following adverse health reactions:
- Blurred or dim vision that may lead to blindness
- Neurological damage (permanent motor dysfunction)
- Mild to severe dermatitis
FDA also reiterated that Methanol is not allowed to be part of a cosmetic product as per the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Cosmetic Directive.
Just for reference, here is the review that I wrote last year. But again, I'm taking back my recommendation until Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol gets approval from the FDA.

Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol is a brand that I have only recently seen on grocery store shelves. However, it immediately caught my attention
because it bore the magic word “natural.” I bought a spray bottle to try.
Specifically, I wanted to see if it would induce dermatitis in my skin.
Living with dermatitis
You see, I have dermatitis in my right hand and my dermatologist specifically
told me to avoid skin contact with laundry soap, dishwashing liquid, alcohol,
and any other strong chemical because these will only cause flare-ups.
These flare-ups are characterized by dry, red, scaly/callus-like, and itchy skin which will eventually progress to deep cracks. Every time I would move my fingers, my cracked skin felt like it was being ripped apart. They were that
painful.
Some people who have not yet experienced dermatitis may not know the gravity of having this condition. But just to give you an idea, only two fingers on my left hand and three fingers on my right hand are affected. Nevertheless, I
minimize the movement of my hands because the pain level is too much. Imagine how uncomfortable it would be if you have dermatitis on a larger area of your body.
The pandemic forced me to use alcohol on my hands
However, because of the pandemic, I was forced to use alcohol, mainly
isopropyl alcohol, to sanitize my hand. That meant recurrent painful skin irritation, which I tried to manage by using moisturizes or by just washing my hands with soap and water to give my skin a break from alcohol use.
Since alcohol use is essential for health and safety these days, it’s hard to forego it altogether. As such, I was looking for a sanitizer that’s gentle to the skin but effective in removing germs, bacteria, and viruses. That was when
I saw Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol when Khris and I were out grocery shopping.
My experience in using Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol
Like everybody else, I trust a product easily if it’s marketed as being made of natural ingredients. That’s the reason why I bought a small spray bottle of
Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Spray.
A big bottle of Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol |
Its label said that it has Aloe Vera and Tea Tree extracts, known for their skin moisturizing and anti-bacterial properties. The label also indicated that it kills harmful germs, is friendly to the skin, has a non-drying formula,
prevents the spreading of germs through hands.
Here are the complete active ingredients of Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer
Alcohol: 70% Ethyl Alcohol solution (or fruit extract distillate, just as effective in killing microbes as other types of alcohol), water, aloe
vera extract, tea tree leaf oil, glycerin, Benzalkonium Chloride (commonly
used in household cleaning products for its antibacterial properties), and
fragrance.
I have been using it for the last three months and I would say it has been a
great sanitizing product for me so far. I feel confident in knowing that my
hands are clean and microbe-free each time I use Pure Protect Natural
Sanitizer Alcohol.
Why I like to use Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol
Here are some of my personal observations in using Pure Protect Natural
Sanitizer Alcohol. These are the top reasons why I would likely stick to using this brand as my sanitizer.
1. Pure Protect felt gentle on my hands
When I used isopropyl alcohol brands, I would instantly feel my skin reacting.
I don’t know how to accurately describe the reaction but it was similar to a
tingling feeling but it was not pleasant because my skin felt like it was getting thicker. My skin would then begin to itch, then it would become flaky,
and then the deep cracks would start to appear. It was a cycle.
No cracked skin, so far |
However, with Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol, I would have none of those sensations. It felt cool and gentle on my skin and there was no itchy feeling afterward. My skin didn’t feel dry and tight, which I thought was good news because that meant that there was no adverse reaction to the
sanitizer.
2. Pure Protect hasn’t caused any dermatitis flare-ups on my skin yet
This is probably the best benefit that I got in using Pure Protect Natural
Sanitizer Alcohol. It hasn’t aggravated my dermatitis so far. Sure, there was some itchiness from time to time but a little moisturizer would help relieve the irritation. I haven’t had any cracked skin anymore since I used Pure
Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol, and I hope it stays that way.
3. Pure Protect smells good
One thing that I noticed with Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol is that it smelled fresh. It didn’t have a strong perfume-like or chemical smell. It was more like a mild cologne which I also like.
Epilogue
Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol is gentle to the skin and is effective against germs, bacteria, and viruses. Above anything else, what I like about using Pure Protect Natural Sanitizer Alcohol is that it hasn’t aggravated my dermatitis.
It’s a good brand to consider if you are like me who are looking for a
sanitizer that balances protection and skin health.
Note: If you experience any adverse reaction when using a product, immediately seek medical attention. If you suspect that you have dermatitis (flaky, red, itchy,
cracking skin), consult a dermatologist so that they can recommend proper medication.
